Washington Mental Health Statistics

The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, is an organization that publishes data regarding mental health across the United States, among many other things it undertakes to help people. Below we’re going to present 5 Washington mental health statistics NAMI published in order to bring some perspective to this ongoing and serious problem:

  1. 1,269,000 adults in Washington are suffering from a mental illness.
  2. 300,000 adults in Washington suffer from serious mental illness.
  3. 410,000 people in Washington who needed mental health treatment in the previous year did not obtain it.
  4. 36.9 percent of those people did not get treatment because of cost concerns.
  5. More than 2.8 million people in Washington live in a community lacking in the number of mental health professionals.

To put those numbers in perspective:

  1. The number of people needing Washington mental health treatment is larger than the populations of Seattle, Spokane and Tacoma combined.
  2. The number of people suffering from serious mental illness in Washington is greater than the populations of every city in the state except for Seattle.
  3. The population of the entire state is just under 7.8 million people, meaning that more than 35 percent of the population live in an area that is underserved with mental health professionals.

In short, people are hurting in large numbers. What’s worse is that far too many people are not getting the help they need. In many situations, that’s because they feel – rightly or otherwise – that they cannot afford treatment. In other situations, they are not getting treatment because there is no one locally available to help them.

How SoCal Empowered Can Help

If you are tired of suffering and/or you’re tired of watching a loved one suffer, it’s time to do something about it. If you have health insurance, take a look at your policy to determine if you have mental health benefits. The majority of health insurance PPO policies do these days. If the language confuses you, then you can always call us.

If you speak to us, we will discuss your situation to find out what’s wrong. We will initially determine if there’s a potential fit for our program. If so, we will check directly with your insurance company to see what your benefits and coverage are for a stay with us. We are in-network with several large carriers and we work with several others on an out-of-network basis.

If we do not think that a stay with us is what’s best for your current circumstances, then that’s what we’re going to tell you. In addition, we’ll help you find the resource you need for treatment.

The bottom line is that you need to contact us as soon as possible for help. Our facilities are a manageable distance from anywhere in Washington, and mental health is something that everyone needs to prioritize.
